Mobile Response

In cases of a recent sexual assault, the agency will provide accompaniment for the victim, (at their request) at the hospital or police.

We attend at the Sexual Assault & Domestic Violence Treatment Centre or of the hospital at the request of either the victim, the Treatment Centre staff or the police.

Although it can be difficult for victims/survivors to reach out for help it can be beneficial to talk to someone who will be understanding non-judgemental and accessible when the need arises.

TELEPHONE RESPONSE

Business Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Ask for the Intake Crisis Worker

After Hours: 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 a.m. & weekends 24 hours

  • Call will be taken by Answering Service
  • Give your first name and number
  • The crisis worker on-call will call you back
  • If you are unable to leave a number, the answering service can do a “patch through”, holding you on the line until the crisis worker can be patched through to you.
NOTE: Patch throughs and call backs can take a while if the crisis worker is in transit or on another call. Please call the answering service back if there is an extended delay.

Recent Sexual Assault

After a recent traumatic event such as a sexual assault, many victims are unaware of what they should or can do. They experience shock, fear, disbelief and many other emotions.

They may be physically hurt in addition to being psychologically traumatized.

They may be concerned about pregnancy, HEP C, STD’s or AIDS.

Some may have been given “rape drugs” and have no memory of what occurred but know something bad happened to them.

It is important for victims/survivors to be able to talk to someone immediately, who can provide options, and safety planning. Assistance will be provided whether it be brief, short or long term depending on the victim’s wishes. We can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Past Sexual Assault/Sexual Abuse

Victim/survivors of past sexual assault or sexual abuse often call our agency because something occurred recently that re-opened old wounds.

Callers to the crisis line may be experiencing flashbacks, nightmares, panic attacks, etc. They feel frightened and threatened physically or psychologically by an experience or situation that has “triggered” unresolved traumatic experiences.

They can maintain their anonymity, while requesting assistance and information.

We will provide follow-up services (counselling/advocacy) as requested by the victim/survivor or refer them to other agencies, or support service that they may require.
