About Us
The Sexual Abuse Centre Thunder Bay is a non-profit, incorporated organization that has provided services in our community since 1975. The agency provides specialized help, support, counselling, and information for all genders who have difficulties overcoming the traumatic effects of sexual violence and domestic violence they have experienced at any time in their lives.
We are a stand-alone agency, independent of all other agencies
including any police agencies, the court system, and healthcare organizations. That means that our services are fully confidential – we do not report your case to any other agency, and we are not legally obligated to do so except in specific circumstances (for example, child abuse).
Mission Statement
The role of this agency is to counteract the damaging effects of violence on individuals, families, and the community as a whole.
Philosophy
The general principles on which this agency is governed emphasize the intrinsic worth, dignity, and ability of individuals to adapt and grow (humanism).
Values of acceptance, self-determination, empowerment, and enhancement of the inherent strength of our clients are paramount.
While violence can be inflicted on all people in our community, we identify that women and children, historically and to the present day are more vulnerable in our society.
Personnel
Each staff member providing client services has a post-secondary education in social services, social work, psychology, or other health/education profession.
How To Help
Whether it be in the form of donations or simply the time and effort of our team of willing volunteers, we welcome any support the community is willing to offer.
With your support, we can continue the important work we do.
